Zoo Ape by David Garrison

August 2019 - Zoo Ape

About the Image(s)

visited san diego zoo with grandchildren and took this ape with 105mm lens, 1/100 @ f8. I cropped it a lot , sharpened and did some contrast changes.

Nice sharp image. Could the sharpening produce the purple outline on the ear and the shoulder? I like the extreme crop but would prefer a different background. I find that little bit of sky (?) a distraction.

I also felt the background to be a little too bright.
I would have darkened the light knuckle.
A very nice image, well done. Jesse   Posted: 08/13/2019 08:43:06

What a wise old face. Very nice portrait. There is a bit of chromatic aberration. The background is bright but not sure if darkening would work because of how the light falls on the ape's face. I really do like this! Good job.   Posted: 08/14/2019 16:52:31

David-Nice portrait of Zoo Ape with good detail and focus.I do feel to tone down a little bit BG keeping the separation in mind from the main subject.I would also make cropping a little bit from the right side to keep the equal distant of Ape's shoulder.

Excellent detail in the ape (very sharp). I would like to see him not cropped quite so tight.   Posted: 08/28/2019 13:23:38
