The Dark/The Light by Alastair Cochrane

June 2020 - The Dark/The Light

About the Image(s)

Part of a series taken during my lockdown exercise walk where I was attracted to sunlight coming through trees and picking out small parts of a corrugated iron roof in the middle of a wood - the dark/the light. To ensure the contrast, I underexposed by nearly 2 stops. The photographs were only there to be taken for a few weeks as more leaves appeared on the trees and the sun rose in the sky so no contrasty light on that roof now until next year.

Few photographers in the forum really make use of the light.

YOU DID and this is a great shot. The direction of the light, the shadows, the quality of the light are all superb. This is truly beautiful. Well done.   Posted: 06/07/2020 18:43:42

A truly captivating image that demands long and serious attention and contemplation on the multiple layers of waves, colors, and lighting. An ideal combination of abstract and concrete ( yan/yang ?) makes the image hauntingly beautiful   Posted: 06/24/2020 04:26:27

Very intriguing pattern that makes you stop and linger. I like the subtle contemplative palate and receding dark background. There's no room for improvement. Well done.   Posted: 06/25/2020 13:47:11

Great abstract! Lovely colours, textures and shapes. An example where the negative space is absolutely essential to the image. Well seen!   Posted: 06/26/2020 03:07:24

Like the lighting and shape/pattern. Might play with mid-tone to make it little more dramatic/mysterious, but already very good as is.   Posted: 06/26/2020 09:52:05
