Frozen Waves by Marcus Miller

March 2019 - Frozen Waves

About the Image(s)

This image was made at sunrise just as the light was casting a pink glow on the piles of ice. The ice is formed from the waves crashing at the edge of the ice pan, about a 1/2 km off shore. It was cold and I was up to my knees in new snow. I cropped in LR to make it a panorama, added a vignette and made minor adjustments.

Quite remarkable! and I wonder where it was taken--without the explanation one would wonder what it could be.   Posted: 03/10/2019 08:54:33

HI Barbara, thanks for your comments. This is the view from our front door. We live near the town of the Blue Mountains on Georgian Bay (about 2 hours north of Toronto). MM   Posted: 03/10/2019 09:10:09

Why a marvellous 'front door' view. Here in Florida we look oui at a dreary little pond, although it does attract birds and our FL clouds are quite lovely. Isn't the grass always greener.....?   Posted: 03/10/2019 09:17:45

Hi Barbara, each member of the group should submit a "front door"
(or nearby) image once a year! Regards, Alastair.   Posted: 03/21/2019 11:10:34

A very lovely scenic image but I keep wanting to see a polar bear or ???   Posted: 03/11/2019 16:05:37

Up to your knees in snow??? At sunrise??? LoL! Marcus, I like the blue monochrome tones of your image and the layers of fore/middle/and background. Your panoramic crop is a good idea …perhaps cropping even tighter to exclude the bright white wave on the very right which tends to draw the eye.   Posted: 03/17/2019 12:40:44

The landscape is enhanced by the sunset colouring. I wish we got some snow like this from time to time.   Posted: 03/21/2019 11:12:26

Amazing scene and without your explanation, we would have missed the essence of this rare scene. Never imagined such a beautiful snowscape!   Posted: 03/24/2019 02:29:01

At first I thought it was White Sands, except that the "sand" appeared too coarse. Then I saw your description. Remarkable how colors, textures and patterns repeat in quite diverse environs in nature!   Posted: 03/24/2019 12:31:44
