About the Image(s)

This image was taken a few years ago in Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia. We were lucky to be there in the early morning when there was fog. I liked the boat named, "Harbor Mist" to be in the fog in the area. It was taken with a Nikon D7200, Nikon 18-300mm lens, at 52mm, 1/250th second, f11, ISO 400. There was too much fog, so I first in Lightroom added 55 to the highlights, 54 to Dehaze and 56 to saturation. I used Topaz Denoise to clean it up, then I cleaned up the junk floating in the lower part of the image. Then I used Topaz Adjust to add some more color. That made the overall image kind of blue, so I used a Hue and Saturation layer to remove the overall blue cast. Then I used Hue and Saturation layers with a mask to effect only small parts of the image. I had a layer to make the orange ball grey, a layer to make the red door on the right upper corner darker, and a layer to get rid of the purple cast in the upper right corner. The purple color might have been from the Dehaze adjustment. Included are originals before Lightroom, and after Lightroom and cleaning up the foreground.

A very nice image of a foggy morning at Peggy's Cove. The only suggest I might have is to tone down the house on the right side.My eyes goes to the boats and the pier on the right side, but also goes up to the house on the hill. i would like to see it toned down or to look like it is in your original image. I like the image very much, you did a good job.   Posted: 08/08/2020 09:43:45

Thanks for the suggestion. Looking at it, you are right. It will be an easy fix. I just opened the original, moved it on top, and used a mask to show just the upper right building.   Posted: 08/08/2020 10:53:05

Wow. You nailed the fog! Being from Boston I really enjoy pictures from along the Atlantic coast, particularly those with fog. I like how you reduced the impact of the round orange cushion and cleaned up the debris in the original. I actually enjoy all three of the images, but your changes make the final stand out.   Posted: 08/10/2020 13:54:07

Tom, your effort to focus the viewer's attention was worth it. Amongst the foggy scene Harbor Mist jumps out. Composed excellent. Very attractive setting. The only suggestion I could make would be tone down the white value of the row boat. It is pulling my eye somewhat away from the subject. Nice photograph.   Posted: 08/11/2020 16:44:43
