About the Image(s)

I made this image on my old Fuji S5. This was done in Asbury Park, NJ boardwalk. I worked on it in Lightroom, Tweaked the colors to give it a warm done. I did a little cropping, then brought down the clarity. I wanted to give it a dream like feeling. As you can see from the original the changes I made I shot at ISO 200, 1/450 sec, f 11

Your changes really improved the image. It is a good story telling image. If you could open up the shadows on the man it would help, but it looks like you did some already and may not be able to do anymore.   Posted: 08/10/2019 16:54:30

I like it! It has a great photojournalism feel. The old person complete with cane all bundled up. The red coat in contrast to the overall blues works very well. I don't like the pole on the right. I would crop it out or clone it out.   Posted: 08/10/2019 21:50:20

This draws my interest on the person, who is he, what is his story. All the elements (birds, boardwalk, seats, etc.) work together nicely. This might do well in a photojournalism contest.   Posted: 08/11/2019 10:51:31

Barbara, Thanks for the suggestion of taking out the pole. I'll give that a try and see how I like it. I don't want to crop it any more because I'd be losing some of the gulls.   Posted: 08/13/2019 13:02:10

I like Tom's suggestion to open up the shadows. There's an old trick that still works well if you have Photoshop. Go to the Shadows/Highlights adjustment and apply the default setting (Shad 35/Hlts 0) and then use a Curves adjustment layer to restore contrast. You may prefer to put the Curves layer in Luminosity blend mode to avoid affecting the colours too much.   Posted: 08/15/2019 05:32:07

You change the image to warm tone, that is more reality for the beach environment. It's very interesting you captured the moment, all seagulls are facing to the old person. the only thing I would reduce the blue tone at seagull shading area and increase the blue in the sky and sea.   Posted: 08/15/2019 13:13:23

That is a great story telling image. I like the color adjustments and I think I would leave it as is. To my mind both the pole and the trash can add authenticity to the image.
I love pictures like this one.   Posted: 08/26/2019 14:05:18
