Sunset at Henry’s Beach, Santa Barbara by Barbara Mallon

August 2019 - Sunset at Henry’s Beach, Santa Barbara

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken at a Dog’s Birthday party. I was showing someone how to use the pano on my iPhone. I really liked it. So that is exactly what it is. I did little but straighten the horizon and crop it in PhotoShop. I did apply an unsharp mask and change the color space to SRGB. (I liked it better than my Canon camera photos.)

Just a beautiful image. You chose the right time of day and according to my friend who lives with his Iphone, the camera couldn't be better. Well done.   Posted: 08/04/2019 21:28:25

Really great image. The setting sun is in a great location, the people add interest and the 2 cliff areas on both sides hold the viewer in the image. It is also a nice sunset had you have the reflection.   Posted: 08/10/2019 16:44:37

Well done Barbara. Excellent composition, clear image and in focus throughout. I find it interesting how one's eyes are drawn inward from the sun, by the reflecting sunlight, to a couple of boulders adding interest in the foreground, then bact out to the left for the silhouetted beach walkers.   Posted: 08/14/2019 15:41:12

Wow. So much to see. I love how the boulders lead your eyes up each side of the image, and I like how the multiple groups of people balance off the headlands on the left. The is extraordinary .   Posted: 08/15/2019 11:54:33

Very nice pano sunset image from iPhone. I like iPhone panoramic function, special for landscape. Now the iPhone camera has higher quality, but it has limited adjustment. Like the sunset is difficult the get more details around.   Posted: 08/15/2019 12:27:22

Great image. I started to leave my Canon at home too and rely on the versatility and convenience of my phone, albeit, an Android.   Posted: 08/20/2019 10:45:16

We see what you saw! Well done.
Yes, I forced myself to shoot almost exclusively with my Pixel 3 camera instead of my D810 while traveling through 12 States this summer. I learned it's limitations but convinced myself that I won't upgrade my full frame camera until Nikon offers the AI capabilities of my phone. Night mode in museums is unbelievably good, easy, simple. It defies natural lens physics by using low ISO, and fast shutter speed when the opposite should be the case. How? It captures 15 images and consolidates the best of each all within seconds!
I will travel to Italy next month and only carry my phone and a battery pack.   Posted: 08/21/2019 09:28:21
