About the Image(s)

I found a leaf floating in my swimming pool and found some interest for taking a photo of it with the different lighting between the light coming from underwater and the light coming from the air.

The patterns of the leaf is special. I tried to position the line delimitating the two parts of the leaf and also the two different colors in diagonal.

I closed as much as possible the aperture (f32) so as to maximise the depth of field since the leaf was not flat (it ondulated a little bit). The speed is 1/160 and ISO 1250. The focal length was 60mm (using the Nikkor 24-70 mm f/2.8.

My camera was Nikon D850.

Hi, Georges,
This is an intriguing image. Lots of detail study. My eye does go to the small light area in the upper left section of the leaf which is a distraction. But I especially like the right-hand side and the way the leaf is leaving the image. Using the two color tones was an interesting touch. I tried a slight crop to eliminate the light spot - just experimenting with it a bit. Hope you don't mind.

Thanks Janet for your comments.
So, if I understand, you cropped the photo to reduce the bright area on the upper left side by making the format closer to a square format. In fact I like your idea and the colors are now better balanced. Your comment was useful to me. Great thoughts.   Posted: 04/12/2021 09:52:38

Hi, Georges.
This image fascinates me because it is rich in delicate detail and the play of light is so intriguing. I admire the diagonal composition which I think adds to the contrasting pattern. I also like the evidence of the blue background at camera right as it serves as a good stop for my eye and adds to the balance of the image for me.

I also noticed the brighter spot of light at the top because it diverted my attention a bit. Now having seen Janet's square crop I agree with you that the idea works well. Thanks for sharing this marvelous abstract.   Posted: 04/12/2021 10:11:36

Hi, Gorges,
Very interesting image. Find this to be a great study. Great colors and patterns with all the cell clusters. I agree the bright area is a bit of a distraction. I too like Janet's crop. This image has a strong diagonal line that goes corner to corner dividing the image in half. With Janet's crop the diagonal is now moved up and out of the corners. I feel this makes better composition. Great image.   Posted: 04/12/2021 14:49:49
