Pink Rose by Dick States

April 2021 - Pink Rose

About the Image(s)

I took my camera with my 200 mm macro lens along with my tripod and a reflector called sun to a local park. I found this rose growing with a hedge behind it which made a great background. This is a four image stack. Taken at 1/200 sec. ISO 320 -1 stop.

Hi, Dick.
Beautiful rose image! To me what makes it so attractive - is including the bud and the subtle leaves in the lower area. Those two items are nice finishing touches to a pleasing composition. Also like the rolled edges of some of the petals.
Very lovely to study.

Hi, Dick.
I agree with Janet, this is a lovely image. The rich pink and side view perspective create a striking rose portrait. Also I find the presence of the bud conveys a sense of anticipation and contrasts with the mature bloom. The line of rose stem and leaves ground and balance the image for me. This is beautiful!   Posted: 04/12/2021 09:56:58

Nice composition with a good background. I generally like backgrounds with dark colors and plain color with no distracting objects. I like the rosebud with a lighter green color, distinguishing from the rest of the green areas.
May be I would erase the small yellow thorn in the extreme lower left corner which distracted my eyes.
If the purpose of image stacking process was to enhance the depth of field, I am surprised that it did not permit the leave on the lower right corner to be in focus. Is it because the leave moved a little bit ?
But all in all, this is a good picture, very pleasant to look at.   Posted: 04/12/2021 09:59:48

Thanks Georges for your comments. This was taken outside so the leaf may have moved. This was only a 4 image stack being I was outside. I didn't want to do my normal stack of 20 or more images because of the wind. My main interest was to get the flower sharp. I also agree with you about the thorn. I never noticed it until you brought my attention to it.   Posted: 04/12/2021 15:04:51
