Chess Play by Salvador Atance, EPSA

January 2018 - Chess Play

About the Image(s)

During a visit of the Munich zoo I saw a chimpanzee lazily lying on his tree. Taking the photo was not easy because the animal was behind a window. In post production I made this crop. As I submit this in nature division I did not remove the little green spots. In fact these are two feet and one hand (itīs not obvious I think).

I think this is my comment on my image and not Salvadors.

To his image I will write something later.

Hahaha, in the chess play only there are horses not monkies :D.
Toni thanks to the work you do even with not so good health.
We all want you to feel better very early.   Posted: 01/09/2018 11:11:15

There is a opening in chess called orangutan (1. b2-b4). So sometimes the monkeys are actually playing on the chessboard.

Sorry, Correct information to the imatge:

It's a close-up from an ancient chess play I look at a museum.
I've tried to catch the long distance between oponents, opening diafragm and reducing the DOF.

F3.2, Iso 3200, 1/25s.
Olympus E-M1 and lens 14-54mm. Measured in manual, Spot.

I really like the left half of this image. My eye keeps getting pulled to the right half due to the brightness. I'm sure this changes the idea behind this image but I like the crop with only the left side. I love the color on the left side and the limited depth of field with just the foreground piece being sharp. Nice idea.   Posted: 01/18/2018 18:38:49

I like Dick's crop idea. I feel that it helps to focus the image.

Yes, Dick has presented the most effective composition with this image for my eye. But where, oh where, is this invisible chimp??? d;¬{Ð   Posted: 01/21/2018 12:44:12

Hi, Salvador.
Yes - the above crop does it , especially the way the tall vertical piece catches your attention. The coloring of the pieces also adds to overall effect.   Posted: 01/22/2018 15:30:24
