Beech Forest by Mark Burgess

November 2021 - Beech Forest

About the Image(s)

I have been working on a project with the concept of showing a walk through the forest and what you might see. Therefore on the scale of macro (in the case of sharp eyes) to birdlife and through to intimate landscapes on the scale of this image. The image was not processed much other than to do some dodging and burning to compensate for the rather flat light.

A well spotted image. The path draws us through the image with interest all the way through. I particularly like the two trees on the left hand side. You do seem to have a magenta cast in the image which is easily removed. I would also lighten it up slightly.   Posted: 11/01/2021 05:55:40

A nicely composed landscape with a good leading line in the path. I agree about the magenta haze but I feel it is a little flat without that pop of colour. I think if anything I would have saturated it a little more and increased the contrast a little. Possibly a vignette would help to direct the eye into the bright spot in the middle.   Posted: 11/03/2021 13:58:06

Mark, it's a lovely image of an intriguing location. I played with it a bit... cropping slightly on the left and modifying the light so that it felt (to me) like a "secret location in the forest". I attempted to make left-most fern pull my eyes into the image.

Nice work and excellent "seeing"!

Thanks Oliver, I think the extra light there does help   Posted: 11/12/2021 16:05:49

Mark, this is a very nice image, evokes the question, where does this path lead? I like Pete's post-processing too.   Posted: 11/14/2021 20:53:17

I don't see this as a 'walk' Mark, it is too rough a terrain but it really doesn't matter. I like the colours you have in the image and th additions that Pete made further enhance the quality.   Posted: 11/15/2021 12:52:54
