April 2019 - Bearded man

About the Image(s)

I didn’t do a great deal to this image. His roguish glance caught my eye and thought him to be a good subject. I added a tiny sparkle to his eye and used Nik Viveza 2 structure to emphasise his beard

Wow! What a great face. The colors are wonderful together and the man's beard sets everything off. I really like it. The only thing I might question is the beard's structure. It might be slightly overdone. But, that's a nit about a fantastic image. Nicely done!

You are right about the beard Pete, structure is a great tool but I notice it is often easily overdone   Posted: 04/01/2019 17:53:37

I also meant to add info on shadow border, there are prob. many ways to do this but mine is:Open image>copy layer> fill w white or desired BG colour move under orig layer > click on orig layer>control T, hold option key to keep borders same size>drag image inwards to desired size. Layer style> drop shadow > move distance, spread & size to your choice.   Posted: 04/01/2019 18:27:46

The image is great but I can't begin to tell you how I appreciate the instructions for the shadow border. I wish everyone was that explicit. Thanks.   Posted: 04/02/2019 09:20:04

I rally enjoy the tight crop of this image. I feel I am are really being drawn into the frame and his eyes (window to the soul)

The colour tones work really well and compliment the image. His skin tone and detail has been well handled but I do find the beard is the dominate part of the image. If this could be toned down slightly (maybe even made a little darker) I would look at his face for longer and beard would be less noticeable and have a supporting rather than the star :)

Excellent portrait ! Color and composition are 'spot on' as you Brits say...   Posted: 04/07/2019 15:05:04

I think you did a good job of tight cropping. The eyes are very nice. I think the beard is just right and not overdone. I like the frame and how you done it.........   Posted: 04/11/2019 13:45:23

Hi Barbara
I had never done portraits until around 3 years ago I so enjoy them now especially characters and boy you have captured this character superbly that glance towards the camera really grabs the attention I do agree I would tone the structure down unless of course you have really had to downsize the image for this site,I have a feeling this would make a very strong mono image give it a try.   Posted: 04/11/2019 15:30:48
