About the Image(s)

At an annual pirate festival in our town I saw this lovely child getting her face painted. (How I would love to have seen that face before its destruction--but all in fun). I did little other than change the BG and finished with the high pass filter. Notice that her hair on the left side is not as wispy as in the orig. How do you make little wisps to make it look natural? I tried with the pencil tool but it looked too fake. Any ideas?

Barbara, nice capture; I can't make any recommendation in addition to what you have already done. This tells a story.
As far as the wispy hair, I have had some success with Topaz ReMask. You would almost have to go down to the pixel level to pick out the color in a strand of hair then use color separation. The new 2018 PS is suppose to have better capabilities too.   Posted: 11/05/2017 06:51:55

What a wonderful picture. I like the fact that she apparently had cat whiskers prior to the skull.

I agree with Richard that Topaz ReMask might be a way to handle the wispy hair. But, even with that it would be a very time-consuming activity.   Posted: 11/05/2017 13:50:06

I noticed after I posted this image that I didn't do a good job around her forehead, just above her left eye, I would correct this before entering in comp. Thanks for the nice words. Oliver and Rich.   Posted: 11/05/2017 17:18:38

great shot of the little girl. you did a good job of cleaning up the background. the narrow border sets the image off nicely.   Posted: 11/11/2017 11:51:37

It's a great idea to remove the cluttered background which is very distracting, Barbara. I agree with you that the edges need cleaning up. As to the wispy hair, It is a time consuming job but not too difficult if you increase the size so you can see the individual pixels, use a layer mask on the layer you used for the new background, remove the new background around the hairs then and paint it back in leaving only the hair wisps visible.   Posted: 11/22/2017 01:21:30
