July 2017 - The London Eye

About the Image(s)

On our 5th anniversary we took a vacation to London and Paris on a group tour. The sky was awesome during this time with all the clouds.. Nice and puffy.. Cant wait to go back..

Phil, I really liked the swoop of the Ferris wheel leading to the bottom gondola; however, the building on the right side bothers me. I took the liberty of cropping that building out. Also, I used NIK's Viveza 2 to tone down the brightness of the clouds around the gondola while at the same time I brightened the gondola. Let me know what your thoughts are.   Posted: 07/10/2017 09:01:20

A great Monochrome Phil. The whole image is so marvellously sharp, would like to have seen some details on the settings. I don't object to the building on the RH side but eliminating it perhaps does bring the wheel into more deliberate focus. Good job!   Posted: 07/10/2017 10:11:59

I hate to be wishy-washy but I actually like the picture both with and without the building. With the building showing it gives a strong sense of motion with the gondolas circling down and around toward the building. Without the building there's a feeling of lightness as though the gondolas are floating through the beautiful sky.

Phil, your choice of monochrome was perfect and the increased brightness toward the bottom right of the photo really makes it feel dynamic.

Well done.   Posted: 07/10/2017 11:46:31

I really like the curved flow in this, which is emphasised by the increasing size of the pods. It's very well seen and captured. Like Richard, I prefer it without the buildings as it make the image slightly more abstract. Very well done indeed.   Posted: 07/21/2017 05:34:13

Good job of turning the picture into monochrome; I think the building structure in the picture is OK. It gives us a sense of the size of the Ferris wheel.   Posted: 07/23/2017 19:36:14

Thank you all for the comments.. I wanted to get some artsy pictures in while I was there.. but I was really tired at that point.. all the while my wife glaring at me.. LOL

I wanted to get a feel for how really large this was.. If anyone has not been on it but Eye makes one revolution every 30 minutes and it really never stops.. its slow enough that people can get in and out while it still moves hence why the picture came out clear..

as I forgot to add settings..

Return from trip. Your use of the curve of the ferris wheel is a great composition and the use of BW adds to this, I too like it with out the building in the way.   Posted: 07/31/2017 21:02:05
