About the Image(s)

This was taken in Seville in Southern Spain on our trip there in April 2016. I saw the women sitting alone and concentrating on her phone and I liked the simple graphic nature of the background. I wondered what she was thinking so I took the shot.

Post Capture manipulation consisted of using Photoshop Transform to straighten everything up before cropping to a square format. In cropping, I paid particular attention to making sure that both the woman and the window grill were positioned the way I wanted them. Nik Glamour Glow was used to give the image a slight ethereal feel, using a layer mask to remove the effect from the woman. This was followed by Darken/ Lighten Centre, Viveza and Levels layers to adjust the lighting. Minor distractions were removed using the clone tool. Finally, and the image was sharpened using the High Pass Filter.

Nikon D810, 50 mm Sigma Art prime lens, ISO 100, f/1.4, 1/800 sec

The fact that you left in and straightened the bars on the RH side adds particularly to this image. I might have cropped it out and what a mistake that would have been! You have such an eye for capturing the ordinary and turning it into classic. Beautiful work David.   Posted: 04/13/2017 06:05:00

Thanks Barbara. I thought that the grill was important both as a graphic element which balanced the image but also because the whole scene suggested to me a prison which she was unable to escape from and the grill added to that interpretation.   Posted: 04/24/2017 01:11:46

A thoughtful picture. You can certainly tell she is consintrating on what ever is on the phone. She is nice and sharp too. Well done.   Posted: 04/14/2017 16:12:10

Thanks Joyce. Please see my comment to Barbara, above, for an interpretation of what I was trying to do with the image.   Posted: 04/24/2017 01:13:36

From yopur original you have cropped to the correct parts that you wanted to show as well as all of the thing in the photo are very sharp. You have a knack of doing thing with the original and making a great photo out of it. The woman concentration of the phone is great.   Posted: 04/25/2017 20:15:57

You have certainly mastered the NIK software; excellent crop of the original image. The lighting effect that you created on your subject is masterful. Leaving the windows in as part of the image creates another dimension to the image.   Posted: 04/25/2017 20:45:53
