About the Image(s)

Our local BMX and Skateboard bowl has recently re opened so took a walk down to see if I could get a few shots a massive thanks to the riders there for allowing to photograph them all have been sent copies I think this image especially shows the skill and courage of these guys.

How I did it

Camera Canon EOS 5D Mk III lens Canon EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM f9 1/800s ISO 500 focal length 80mm RAW file adjusted in Photoshop for contrast highlights and shadows cropped up from the bottom and sharpened with a high pass filter and a 2 px stroke added

Ian, the right title should be "fearless". It is really amazing to watch these guys defying gravity. Nice action shot captured (frozen) in space. Good photojournalistic and travel image showing a place. Of course the graffiti is never absent in public places. Image is sharp. Almost non cluttered background (he is between the trees. They try their best specially when showing off.   Posted: 09/07/2020 10:56:51

Hi Isaac
When asking the guys if they minded if I photographed them I also said please do not try anything above your skill level because there is a camera pointing at you as I do not want anyone hurt on my account might as well have spoken to the wind,as a footnote he did land it beautifully. Thanks for the title I was struggling what to call it.   Posted: 09/07/2020 14:52:18

Amazing feat, can't imagine how one is able to get to the point to be able to do that. I would have been dead with the first go around. Good color balance - orange backpack, orange paint wall - green trees, green letters.   Posted: 09/10/2020 22:35:46

Good action shot Ian. I straitened the horizon then Camera Raw and clicked on auto. That darkened and provided more contrast for the rider and graffiti. Being tired in the middle of the night, forgive me as I didn't replace the stroke.   Posted: 09/14/2020 00:34:29

Thanks Erik If I had been working in the middle of the night I think I might have suffered a stroke not added one.   Posted: 09/14/2020 16:40:54

If I was that high off the ground I'd want a parachute! This image is an excellent example of catching the action at just the right moment. Focus is just right and shutter speed well chosen, and you hit the button at exactly the right moment. The overall colour combination of green and orange and blue is very satisfying.   Posted: 09/14/2020 04:12:14
