Friends on a Photo Outing by Erik Rosengren, FPSA, PPSA

September 2020 - Friends on a Photo Outing

About the Image(s)

How I did it—As you may know, I have been shooting consistently with 4 PSA friends that are also members of the Suncoast C.C. of Clearwater. We try to take candid images of each other on every shoot. At the conclusion of each outing we complete P.P. on a few images then we exchange these files with our group. That completed it’s time for a Senior nap. Can’t think of a better way to spend a Senior day. We were at the Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland, FL. In late Jan. Betty Sue and I were walking behind Dave and David. I stopped and watched them continue to their destination. Viewing the trail, my 2 friends and surrounding greenery in the early morning light prompted me to make “Friends on a photo outing”. My photo eye told me this would be a special image and memory. That said, I made a print for each of them. Tools for the day, Canon 7D Mark 11 and Canon 100-400 IS 11, f4.5-5.6 lens, hand held at 400 ISO, f-11 at 100 mm at 125th sec. P.P. consisted of a slight crop, Topaz Studio, adding a little of green for the foliage and Camera Raw. Don’t let this Pandemic shut down your photography. Our group researches where we are going, then we enjoy a brunch at a trusted restaurant that provides outside dining. We don’t shoot on weekends and attempt destinations where people numbers are limited. Hope you have a beautiful Fall.

What a beautiful setting. The orange shirt compliments the green. Soft light is very appealing. Such a nice story of how to spend a day with friends.   Posted: 09/02/2020 22:16:48

Erik, great image of our Florida vegetation, with a very broad path (leading line) which takes my eyes directly to your friends, specially the one with the orange shirt. There is depth so I can see beyond them. Both nicely framed by the vegetation. It is sharp. It is timely and records the moment for posterity.   Posted: 09/05/2020 11:30:14

This is a great image of the solitude of our times. Here on the east coast things are just starting to open up so we'll see where that goes. Apparently last week Wakodahatchee opened up and we've had nothing but rain since.

Erik, this is a very peaceful image and a great story to go with it. The path leads the eye straight to the two figures and they are well framed by the trees. The attractive dappled sunlight adds to the restful feel of the image without creating contrast problems.   Posted: 09/14/2020 04:00:56
