About the Image(s)
In 2017 I took a trip to Oaxaca with Richard Martin (my fourth trip there). Many things happen near the Santo Domingo Church there – it is a popular gathering place – and on that day there was a kind of parade with many people in different costumes. This boy was one of them, and this week I decided to experiment with using Topaz Studio to replace the busy background. All I did was select him and put in a background layer. I was too lazy to work hard on the selection, but I think that the Quick Selection tool did a pretty good job.

Joe, you did a pretty good job indeed, except some areas of the hair that came out as a smudge but it gets confused with the colorful background. The image of the boy is very sharp, he is well placed in the frame, he is looking away from you, and his body and hair paint job looks elaborated. He looks a little sad. Now, did you create the background or it was available through Topaz Studio ?   Posted: 01/03/2019 15:36:31

He looks very sad! I guess he wasn't though if he was part of the big occasion. He is pin sharp and well exposed. Your cutting out looks to have been very well done, although some blurred brown bits on the RHS of his head look like they might be some bits of wayward hair. If they were coloured like the nearby background area they would blend into invisibility. Nice choice of background.   Posted: 01/11/2019 08:26:04

Joe, Your image offers good color sharpness and I like the background you selected. Have not used the Quick Selection Tool yet however your image and Isaac and Guys statements make me want me to delve into another learning curve, thanks. I believe our Study Group have helped each other, directly and indirectly, to enjoy a better photographic experience.   Posted: 01/23/2019 20:49:21
