While visiting our friends in Puako (Big Island, Hawaii) I had this idea for a light-painting shot. Our hosts have a pool that has colored light options. They also have this really cool sphere light that is battery-operated. The sphere has a myriad of settings that allow one to vary the color and rate of color change. I had my coned "volunteer" walk through the scene doing different motions with the ball. After enhancing the colors in Lightroom, I took two images into Photoshop and combined them. The bottom light pattern is a separate layer that I flipped horizontally, reduced opacity, and blended to give the appearance of a reflection in the pool.
Camera Settings: ISO 100; f/8; 15 sec; Sony 18-135 zoom at 18mm (27mm equivalent)

I love the colors in your photo, Michael, and what a clever idea of having someone make the motion with a ball! I like the fingers wrapping around the ball in each color as it goes by. I find myself trying to make sense of the photo elements, so your image has my attention.
The only thing I struggle with is the focus. At first, I thought it would be a distraction, but after looking at the image for a while, I find it seems more fluid to me than a blur. I am curious now what the others in the group will have for comments.
You are very creative to have imagined this work of art!

Thanks for your comments, LuAnn. It is sort of the nature of light painting to have a blurred effect - think car headlight streaks in a night time city scene... but that said, I see what you mean. Looking forward to the rest of the members' comments.   Posted: 04/05/2021 16:31:04

Yes, you are right, Michael. I just went online and googled pop art light painting photography. What you said is exactly what I saw. I put a link to one I saw it is photo #9.
Very cool indeed!!! Thanks for sharing.   Posted: 04/05/2021 16:51:15

Michael, I have attended several demos in light painting using light stick or pixel stick, but I never see anyone doing with the ball. The hands shown in each angle are intriguing, and the reflection of the pool adds more impact to it. It's a great image with different colors and I don't have any suggestion for improvement. If you like light painting, you can watch Youtube video of Eric Paré, who is specialized in this field.   Posted: 04/08/2021 15:03:43

Michael,
This is very creative. I like the colors and the reflection as well as the hand that appears in the top layer. It almost looks like neon lights to me.   Posted: 04/10/2021 16:50:31

Michael, your exploration with light painting looks like fun. Putting the two photos together gives a graphic art look to your image. I too have explored a bit with light painting and like the vivid colors you can get.   Posted: 04/14/2021 11:21:02

Very nice abstract photo... I can't get the idea of someone walking thru it with the lights, but I believe you lol! I feel like the top colors could use a little reflection to connect it to the rest of the photo, but maybe not. It's cool!   Posted: 04/27/2021 18:41:40
