Birthday Girls by Ruth Sprain

October 2018 - Birthday Girls

About the Image(s)

This portrait of my granddaughters was taken a couple days ago in celebration of their birthdays. I used my Canon EOS 7D Mark II at f8 and 1/500. We went to a community sculpture garden at 5:00 pm to capture early evening light. I liked the composition of this shot and the girls’ relaxed smiles. I adjusted the colors and sharpened in PhotoShop.

The eyes have it. I take it was a 5th birthday for one and a second(?) birthday for the other one. I liked the angle looking up because it made them the focal point.   Posted: 10/11/2018 10:39:40

The way the girl on the left embraced her sister show the sibling affection and the protection towards her sister. Both girls are beautiful with natural smiles. The evening light works well in this image. I'd prefer to also have trees on the left to balance the background.   Posted: 10/12/2018 23:38:54

Beautiful girls Ruth... the expression and body language convey togetherness... The trees form a nice background and border to the right. The sky to the upper left allows the girls to stand out but also creates negative space and I'm not sure how that affects the image. Light clouds would be nice but a layered composite might look way over processed...   Posted: 10/28/2018 19:55:01

You captured a very nice moment. I love the gesture of the arms wrapped around the one girl. Well done!   Posted: 10/29/2018 11:33:34

Beautiful girls, very loving moment... the one on the left is the more-outgoing?   Posted: 10/30/2018 16:15:54

Yes, she's both two years older and more out-going.   Posted: 10/31/2018 14:02:22
