Fate of a lotus flower... by Hung Phan

August 2019 - Fate of a lotus flower...

About the Image(s)

Houston is too hot,so I came to a small pond to take picture of lotus.I had a lot but I take pity on this flower, its petal falling down water...the life is not persistant.
Please give me comments which help me to improve my photography...Grateful to all of you!My gear is Nikon D700 on tripod.

Hung, I like your composition that tells a story. I feel your contrasting colors of the pink, green, and yellow with the dark background really make this image pop. I would like to see the hot area of the flower toned down some and bring out the pink more. In my opinion, the green leaf adds nothing to the image, and I would suggest eliminating that. Nice story!   Posted: 08/03/2019 12:45:28

I take a lot of shots of dead or wilted photos. They are really interesting to me. If you removed the bright green behind the flower I think it would improve the composition.   Posted: 08/04/2019 10:34:39

The sharp shape and curves of the petal and right-hand leaf with parts of the flower displayed are strong.....I agree about the white on the flower being too strong with a blown-out appearance but it should be recoverable. Nice shot. Piers   Posted: 08/04/2019 14:15:16

I like the story your picture tells. The colors are wonderful. I agree on eliminating the green leaf in the background as it's just a distraction. And toning down the blown-out portion on the petal. But it is a beautiful image.   Posted: 08/05/2019 08:12:04

Def reduce the bright green and watch the white area where just a little more detail would help reduce the blown out area. Either second exposure layer or post fix reduction which could also hurt other things if not careful. Overall, nice image!   Posted: 08/05/2019 20:08:56

A nice composition and balance of the flower in the frame, Hung. As with other commenters, the white blown-out area on the flower should be darkened and the hidden details exposed. Well done.   Posted: 08/20/2019 08:42:56
