Lotus Bud by Joey Johnson

March 2023 - Lotus Bud

About the Image(s)

Was looking through some past photos and came across this one. A small pond in a local park has lotus plants that bloom every year. The story goes that immigrants from Asia planted a couple of plants to remind them of home, and now they fill the pond. Sony a7rIV, Tamron 70-180 lens at 180, iso 200, f2.8.

Nice image, my only suggestion, would be to darken the leaves in the background, which make the flower stand out better.   Posted: 03/05/2023 10:31:09

Interesting subject with good definition in the flower. I'm surprised that you were able to get that depth of focus with f/2.8. Dodging the flower a bit would increase its impact.   Posted: 03/07/2023 11:15:27

A nice soft, tender image and I like how the stem curves around. You just need a little more pop! with the flower.   Posted: 03/07/2023 20:07:26

Very nice image and I like the details on the bud itself but it needs some pizazz. I might have darkened it somewhat.   Posted: 03/14/2023 15:43:54

I really like how the stem s around the bud. I did some playing with a dark vignette and some burning and dodging to keep the attention on the flower without distractions of some of the brighter areas.   Posted: 03/18/2023 07:15:58

It's really lovely with great detail and sharpness on the petals. That one very bright one could be darkened some. To move the flower off center a crop on the left would help. The of the stem is beautiful.   Posted: 03/19/2023 10:58:51

I agree with Mr. Dennis and Ms. Sharon, but the image itself is quite beautiful.   Posted: 03/26/2023 01:09:50
