Red Green Lily Pads by Sharon Moir

November 2020 - Red Green Lily Pads

About the Image(s)

Taken at New York Botanical Garden. I liked the contrasting red and green and the shape of the leaves. The aeration of the pool at top added to the interest. Did some cropping and brought the saturation up slightly.

Nice subject. Appears a bit muddy grey. Would using a polaroid filter cut down on this?   Posted: 11/05/2020 18:07:51

It might. It was a very bright day.   Posted: 11/16/2020 11:24:31

Three is the perfect number for these leafs and that two are red and one green is also ideal. There is a cloudiness to them that might be improved with the Clarity and/or Dehaze filter in PS.

I took a run at it...hope you don't mind.   Posted: 11/16/2020 15:26:06

That is a nice image. Balanced with the stems coming out of the corner with direction. Like yourself I like the rippled water above and I might shown more of it on the top and left which goes with the direction the image is headed.   Posted: 11/18/2020 15:28:50

Unity, silence and peace is there. I imagine a frog sitting on the front leaf as "Frog King".   Posted: 11/21/2020 19:21:55

Nice composition, but I also like what Sol did to brighten a bit. It might benefit from just a little more real estate at the top, but the tight crop is good.   Posted: 11/24/2020 17:05:12

I too thought it looked somewhat muddy which is usually a lack of contrast. I had to play around with it too. I did try a polarizing filter which wouldn't be like having one on the camera and it does kind of give an idea of how that might have helped.   Posted: 11/24/2020 18:53:54
