Chair Books Window by Lee Herman

July 2017 - Chair Books Window

About the Image(s)

135 mm lens on a tripod mounted camera: f/16, 1/3 sec, IS0 100. The focus was slightly soft. In addition to the window, light from an overhead source was reflected a wall. In post processing, I decreased the contrast, increased the softening, and converted to bw.

This has a lovely subtlety and the muted, slightly soft tones help a lot. For me there may be more space given to the chair that is necessary and taking some out would shift emphasis more to the still life on the sill. Really nice image.   Posted: 07/10/2017 21:10:09

I like the odd number of rounded elements on the window sill. The dead flower stimulates the imagination about a story that might be presented here. I think that I would like to see this without the reduced contrast so the eye would be drawn more to the items on the window sill.   Posted: 07/17/2017 15:06:58

It's a lovely composition. Soft and quiet. The chair is so dark that I didn't even noticed it in the beginning and was planning to suggest to crop out the bottom of the image. May be lightening up the chair would make the composition better - hard to say since I don't see a lot of details there.   Posted: 07/19/2017 10:17:02

Great job of creating a mood. I agree with Sol, though, about cropping out some of the chair on the right. I find my eye settling in the empty space between the chair and the window, rather than being drawn to the flower.   Posted: 07/19/2017 11:44:41

A soft melancholy image. Good work.   Posted: 07/20/2017 16:44:32

I really like this image with its dark to light variations and shape inclusions. Yes, less chair.   Posted: 07/21/2017 13:06:15
